Wednesday’s words about writing

October 31, 2012

Starting today, I will post a quotation each Wednesday about writing.  I hope that some of these quotations will  inspire or guide a would-be writer to write. Or provide solace to someone with writer’s block. Or elicit a chuckle or belly laugh when it is most needed.

If you are a writer, you may be familiar with some of these quotations. But bear with me. Even if you have read the quotation before, reading it again might provide the gentle, or not so gentle, nudge you need finish a writing task today or start a new one tomorrow.

Here’s the first quotation:

“The difference between the almost right word & the right word is really a large matter–it’s the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”

– Mark Twain, from Letter to George Bainton, 10/15/1888
